Athletics

Healthy competition supports a student’s human formation.  Participation in athletics teaches teamwork, self-discipline, dignity, respect for rules and authority.  Our Athletics progrmame provides our students with opportunities to practice the virtues of charity, obedience, self-control and humility.

We offer  volleyball, basketball, track and competitive forensics.

Student Pride

Families and staff take pride in our student-athletes. We couldn't do it without our volunteer coaches, who empower our athletes, helping them set goals, work towards them, celebrate success, and to be gracious in both victory and defeat. All of this fosters their knowledge of self and encourages increased discipline and diligence.

If you are interested in coaching, please contact our Athletic Director: Mrs. Jessica Kurth at jkurth@aquinasacademy.com

Aquinas Academy follows all Archdiocesan athletic policies.

Go Mariners!

With the expansion of Nicholas hall which provided us with a full size gym, our athletics program is on the rise!  Our 7th and 8th grade girls volleyball team won 1st place at the Lake Area Christian Conference Tournament in October 2024!     Our athletic mascot is the Mariners and we proudly feature basketball and track as additional sports for our middle school students.

Why 'The Mariners'?

Tales of the sea and exploration are a part of our Catholic and classical traditions - from St. Paul’s journeys to St. Brendan, Odysseus to the Pevensie children, and to salute to a founding family's service in the US Navy. Aquinas Academy’s patrons – St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Nicholas of Myra are invoked by mariners as these saints are patrons against storms. Additionally, our Blessed Mother under the title Mary, Star of the Sea (Stella Maris), is called upon to guide mariners across the seas to safe harbor. The virtues and spirit of a mariner are praised and embraced as they sail to sea seeking adventure. A mariner stares in wonder at the beauty of each sunrise and sunset, respects and faces the terrors of the sea, and is grateful to God when they return home.

Finally, a mariner dreams of what is beyond and works with his/her crew to reach their common goal.
